Many of you will have heard that there are going to be spending cuts to Council services next Spring. Some of you may have asked your Youth Workers already about how these cuts may affect the Youth Team. Below is information that tells you about two proposals that the Council will ask Councillors to vote on in the New Year.
The Youth Team will be in Fountain Square, Hanley on Saturday 7th January as part of the consultation process. If you, your parents or carers want to have your say, come along between 10.00am and 2.00pm.
Proposed budget savings and restructure
For the Youth Team this means:
Under Option 1
Closing 7 Youth Centres, these are
• Stoke (Pump Street) • Meir • Bentilee • Packmoor • Moorland Park • Goldenhill • Berryhill •
Reduce youth work sessions as it is proposed to cut youth work staff. Currently there are 82 youth sessions that run across the City. Under option 1 approximately 43 sessions would cease therefore, only 39 sessions will run under option 1 compared to 82 currently.
In addition to the above, the sessions that will run will have to be detached/mobile sessions with fewer resources available.
Under Option 2
Closing 10 Youth Centres, these are
• Stoke (Pump Street) • Meir • Bentilee • Packmoor • Moorland Park • Goldenhill • Berryhill • Milton • Queensberry • Shelton •
Under Option 2 there would be approximately 57 fewer youth sessions than there are currently. This would reduce from 82 to 25.
The proposals above would take shape from May 1st 2011.
